About the examination:

Many aspirants in India want to become IAS, IPS, IRS or collector, SDM, ACP etc but they do not know how to become one. This is the platform provided to all such aspirants who want to become one of the most powerful officers in India.

This examination is called the Civil Services Examination and is conducted each year by a constitutional body called UPSC(Union Public service Commission). This is considered as the toughest examination in India and second toughest in the world after French Civil Service. This exam provides the opportunity to serve with dignity to nation and provides powers and status to the officer.
This examination is conducted in three stages ie Preliminary Examination, Mains Examination and the Personality Test(popularly called the Interview). 4.5lkh candidates fill up the form, 2.5 lakh candidates appear fro the prelims exam, about 8000 candidates clear prelims and qualify for the mains exam. Out of these 8000 candidates, 2500 candidates qualify for the Personality test which is carried out only at UPSC , Delhi. Finally around 900 candidates reach the final list which is displayed in the month of May. Out of these 900 final list candidates get allotment of services as per the rank and candidates’ choice of service.

How to fill up the form?

The forms of the examination are available in the GPO and now online form can also be filled up which is available on the website www.upsc.gov.in. The notification for the examination appears in the first week of December each year and last date is within 30 days. The form has to be sent to the mentioned address by ordinary post only. Form has to be accompanied by requisite CRF  about Rs. 100/- stamp purchased from GPO and duly cancelled in GPO only.

Eligibility conditions:

Any graduate of any discipline from any of the recognized university in India is the academic qualification. The minimum age should be 21 years. The maximum age should not be more than 30 years as on first August of the year in which the examination is given. Relaxation in age is there for the OBC upto 33 years, for SC and ST the relaxation is up to 35 years.

Number of attempts:

For general category four attempts are there, for OBC 7 and for SC and ST up to 35 years.

Schedule of Examination:

Preliminary examination is conducted on the third Sunday of May which is an objective paper, Mains examination in the Month of October initiation on second Sunday of October and ending on the 21st day, which is a subjective examination.  Personality Test is conducted in the month of April next year and the result is declared in the first week of May, which is an oral examination.

Number of papers:

In the preliminary examination two papers are asked. First is the CSAT paper I and another is CSAT paper II. CSAT paper I is the erstwhile General Studies paper and the CSAT paper II is having mainly quantitative aptitude, verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
In mains examination there are total nine papers. paper I and II are General Studies. Paper 3 and 4 are of English and language paper which are not counted for ranking, they are merely qualifying papers. Fifth paper is essay in which the candidates has to write one essay in 600 to 1400 words out of 5 subjects. papers 6 to 9 are of two papers each of two optionals. There are various optionals out of which we have to select two for this examination. Any one can chose any of the optional. There is no bar on choosing any of the optional.

Candidates should start with syllabus, question papers, NCERT books and then go for standard text books. Here is also a list of useful and essential books for ready reference. Do not be in a hurry to purchase all the books at a time, you may end up purchasing non-essential books without starting with essential books. Here we have uploaded the NCERT books also in pdf form for your benefit.

Guidance:
You need to have a proper guide so that you are not displaced from your correct path. Going to Delhi and joining does not mean you have ended up in a good coaching class.
